Bare metal servers on HPE and Dell

Dedicated HPE and Dell servers, SAN-booted, dual-homed to two switches and two storage fabrics, tuned and verified before handover. Hardware that is yours.

Physical servers that are yours alone: HPE ProLiant blades and rackmounts, Dell PowerEdge, in our own cages, built by the people who will answer when you call. Every network link and every storage path is doubled, the operating system can boot from the SAN, and every box is tuned before you get the keys.

What it is

Dedicated hardware with no hypervisor and no neighbours. Choose local enterprise SSD or NVMe, SAN volumes from our all-flash arrays, or both.

How we build it

Enterprise platforms only. HPE BladeSystem c7000 enclosures with BL460c blades, HPE ProLiant DL380 and DL385 rackmounts, Dell PowerEdge R640, R740 and their siblings. Hardware RAID with protected write cache, enterprise SAS SSD and NVMe, out of band management on an isolated network.

Dual-homed, everywhere. Blades connect to a pair of leaf switches in a virtual port channel, and to two independent Fibre Channel fabrics. A switch, a cable or a fabric can disappear and the server keeps working.

SAN boot when it fits. The operating system can live on a volume on our HPE 3PAR all-flash arrays. A failed blade is then a parts swap: the replacement boots the same volume.

Tuned to what the hardware really is. Bonded interfaces hash on IP addresses and ports, matched to the switch side, so both links carry traffic instead of one. Flash volumes behind hardware RAID get the scheduler, read ahead and queue depth that flash needs, keyed to the media type we read from the drives themselves. Small rules, applied to every build.

Documented to the cable. Every server, port, MAC address, IP address, power feed and cable ID goes into our DCIM the same day it is built.

What it protects you from

  • One NIC, cable, switch or fabric taking your server down.
  • Paying for two network links and only ever using one.
  • Flash storage behaving like spinning disk because of a kernel default.
  • A failed server meaning a rebuild from scratch.

In practice

A mail server moved onto bare metal and all-flash. A busy corporate mail server moved from a virtual machine to a dedicated server on our all-flash SAN by block-level copy, verified sector by sector, with the mail database clean before and after. Storage response afterwards sat around half a millisecond, under backup load.

Why EuroVPS

  • HPE and Dell enterprise platforms only. No white box, no desktop boards, no consumer drives.
  • Two switches and two storage fabrics behind every blade.
  • Tuning done before handover, not after your first slow week.
  • Every port and cable documented in DCIM on the day of the build.
  • Reserved rack capacity in every facility.

FAQ

Can my dedicated server use your SAN? Yes. We present volumes over Fibre Channel, including boot volumes, with full multipathing across both fabrics.

Do I get out of band access? By default our engineers act on the iLO or iDRAC for you, so you never need it. If you want direct console access yourself, we provide it at additional cost over a dedicated VPN.

Can you install my operating system and configure it for me? Yes. We build from tested automated recipes and apply our standard tunings, or hand you a clean install, as you prefer.

Will you have room for my servers? Yes. We hold reserved rack capacity in every facility as a baseline, Digital Realty in Athens included, and expand with customer workload and power demand.
