Same-day emergency vulnerability response

When a critical flaw is disclosed we mitigate within hours, build fixed packages ourselves if needed, and patch every affected server the same day, safely.

Between a critical advisory and the fix landing on your server, we close the gap ourselves. Mitigations go in within hours, patched packages are built in-house the same day the fix is published, and every affected server is patched the same day, one host at a time, with a tested way back.

What it is

A practised emergency procedure, not an improvised scramble. It covers the whole path from reading the advisory to proving afterwards that nobody used the window. It is backed by our own package mirror inside our datacenter, so patching never depends on a public mirror having a good day.

How we build it

Read our own estate first. We confirm which servers run the affected component and whether the applications on them actually use the vulnerable feature.

Mitigate first. While the fix is being prepared, the least disruptive mitigation goes in: a configuration change, a disabled feature, a rule at the edge. Measures that cost performance are lifted as soon as the real fix is in. Measures that cost nothing stay.

Build it ourselves, the same day. When the upstream project publishes fixed source, we build patched packages the same day. We build from the distribution maintainer's own package specification in a clean container, and tag the release so that the vendor's own build replaces ours automatically on the next normal update. The packages go into our own mirror with their checksums kept on record.

Roll out one host at a time. Every server gets a pre-check and a post-check: the same modules loaded before and after, the same sites answering, the application returning a healthy response. Worker pools are restarted gracefully, so a busy site sees a pause of about a second, not an outage.

Automate the careful part. For larger fleets, such as cPanel and Plesk platforms where the fix comes from the control panel vendor, a timed rollout upgrades one server per run, samples real sites on it before and after, and halts the whole sweep and calls an engineer the moment a single site does not come back correctly.

Check whether the window was used. After the rollout we sweep the web and authentication logs for the disclosure window, looking for exploitation attempts and anything that succeeded.

What it protects you from

  • An actively exploited flaw left open after its fix has been published.
  • A rushed fix that breaks every site on a server at night with nobody watching.
  • A patch whose origin nobody can vouch for.
  • Patching stalled because a public mirror is slow or unreachable.
  • Not knowing whether someone got in before the fix landed.

In practice

Critical runtime disclosures, closed in one day. When a top-severity PHP flaw receives its official fix, mitigations go into place across managed platforms before noon. Fixed PHP, built in-house from the maintainer's own specification, is published to our internal mirror within hours of the upstream release, and a news publisher's application servers are patched one by one, each with a single graceful worker restart of about one second.

A digital agency fleet, patched before midnight. The same evening, a digital agency's multi-server fleet was patched end to end, including hosts whose fixed builds came from their control panel vendor late that day and went out through the automated, self-halting rollout. When the agency's lead developer asked late that evening whether their servers were covered, he had his answer within the hour: every one of them was done.

And the logs were clean. A sweep of the disclosure window across the patched platforms found only scanning and a slow, distributed attempt at guessing logins, all of it denied, and no sign of compromise.

Why EuroVPS

  • Same-day patching across every affected server, not "in the next maintenance window".
  • We build trusted patched packages ourselves, the same day the fix is published.
  • Our own package mirror in our own datacenter, reachable only from our address space.
  • Every rollout has pre-checks, post-checks, and an automatic stop.
  • We look for evidence of exploitation afterwards, and tell you what we found.

FAQ

Do you patch my server without asking? For critical vulnerabilities on managed services, we patch the same day and keep you informed throughout. Any downtime is agreed with you first.

Will patching take my site down? We design rollouts to avoid that: graceful restarts, one host at a time, health checks before and after, and an automatic halt if anything looks wrong.

What if my application needs an old version? We mitigate around it, isolate it, agree an upgrade path with you and document the measures in place.

Do I get a report? Yes. You get what was affected, what we did, when, and what the log review showed.
