Backup & disaster recovery
We test your backups
by restoring them.

How we check
A backup only counts once it restores
A green tick from the backup software is not the test. We check that every job wrote what it should, at the size it should, and we restore from it on a schedule, as often as weekly, into a clean environment.
The work behind the copy
Scheduled. Checked.
Restored and reviewed.
Daily backups are included in managed hosting.
Check the artifact
A job that finishes cleanly over an empty file gets caught here. We look at what the backup actually wrote, and how big it is compared to the ones before it. A file that came back short never overwrites your last good copy.
Restore on a rotation
Restores get done on our own machines, on a schedule, whether or not anything is wrong.
Keep the offsite copy isolated
We pull the data out, over our air-gapped out-of-band network, never across a production segment. Your server never pushes it, holds no credentials for the backup storage, and has no route to it.
Replicate to another site
Continuous and block-level, over our own link between our datacenters, never the open internet. It is asynchronous, so we agree the recovery target with you per workload instead of printing one here.
Agree recovery targets
RPO and RTO are agreed per workload, and the replication and restore path are designed to meet them.
The direction matters
We pull the copy.
Your server cannot reach it.
The backup system pulls data from your machine over our out-of-band management network, which is air-gapped from production: routed, firewalled, and never on the same segment as a production server. Your server holds no credentials for the backup storage and has no route to the copy. The full design is on our managed backup page.
This removes a path an attacker could use to reach backups from a compromised server.
How we verify isolationAnd tape, with the plug pulled
Every one of our locations runs its own HPE tape libraries: some active, the rest switched off with the plug pulled. The active libraries take the current backups, written by the backup side over the air-gapped out-of-band network.
The older backups live in libraries that are switched off with the plug pulled. Ransomware can encrypt anything it can reach, and it cannot reach a machine with no power. Old technology, chosen on purpose, for the day everything else has gone wrong.

Three different requirements
Know what is included.
Choose your offsite capacity.
Daily backups are included in managed hosting, checked and restore-tested. Offsite backup starts at 3 TB for €380 a month and grows in 3 TB steps. We size the offsite copy, retention and recovery requirements with you and confirm them in your quote.

Designed around your recovery targets.
A second-site recovery plan depends on the workload, the data you can afford to lose and how soon you need to be running. We review those requirements before quoting.
Scope and recovery targets
Be clear about
what you need back.
You cannot lose a single transaction.
Our standard cross-site replication is asynchronous, with the recovery point designed for each workload. If a workload has stricter recovery needs, we design its protection with you before you sign.
What a second site actually buys youYour servers are somewhere else.
These backup services are for servers we manage. Moving them here is a separate conversation, and the first move is free.
How migrations workBefore you need a restore
Work through
your recovery plan.
What gets copied, where it goes and how it comes back. We’ll review the assumptions with you.
Request a backup reviewBecause someone has already restored it. We do restores on a rotation, on our own machines, whether or not anything is wrong, so a restore has been done before the day you need one. We also check what each backup actually wrote rather than trusting the job to tell us it worked, because a job can finish cleanly and produce nothing.
