What it is
A cloud of your own,
not a fixed product.
Apache CloudStack is a mature open source cloud platform: a management layer that turns a pool of hypervisors and storage into self-service infrastructure. We build it per client, to your specification, on our hardware, in our datacenters.
Your own departments
A private cloud where your teams create what they need through self-service and quotas, instead of waiting on tickets.
Your customers
A platform you resell: accounts, domains and quotas for multi-tenant self-service are what CloudStack is built for.
Teams that automate
The full CloudStack API, exposed publicly or only on your private network, as you specify.
Designed around you
Your cloud,
agreed before anything is racked.
Before anything is racked we agree the shape of your cloud with you: zones, network model, service offerings, templates, storage classes, who gets self-service and what the API exposes.
KVM hypervisors on HPE and Dell servers. No service offering is bigger than one CPU socket, and instances run without swap.
Illustrative architecture. Every cloud is designed individually.Design
We agree zones, network model, service offerings, templates and storage classes with you, and what self-service and the API should allow.
Build
KVM hosts, storage and networking on our hardware in our datacenters, with ShapeBlue's commercial CloudStack support behind the platform.
Run
We patch, watch and plan capacity by written procedures, while your users work through the portal and the API.
CloudStack or private cloud
Two private clouds.
Different jobs.
Both run on our hardware, in our datacenters, looked after by the same engineers. The difference is who drives the cloud day to day.
Dedicated CloudStack
Your users drive it
- Self-service portal and API: your teams or your customers create instances, networks and firewall rules themselves.
- Accounts, domains and quotas for multi-tenant use, including reselling instances.
- We build, patch and operate the platform underneath.
Managed private cloud
Our engineers run it for you
- A virtualization platform on OLVM, operated by our engineers around the applications you already run.
- Changes go through our team, so you keep the outcome without running the platform.
- Capacity and recovery planned with your team.
How we run it
Patched by procedure.
Instances left running.
Security advisories are applied by a written runbook, in the order that keeps your tenants furthest from the change. Customer instances are not stopped or restarted by the procedure.

First we check whether the affected feature is enabled in your configuration, and record the state before anything changes.
Back up what we would need to go back
The CloudStack databases and the management configuration are copied off the management servers before any package changes.
Hosts one at a time, with a brake
Agents are updated host by host, and the run halts automatically if a host does not come back, leaving one host to look at instead of the whole cloud.
Routers by evidence
Virtual router updates are decided by comparing the scripts they actually run, not by trusting the platform's flag, so tenant networks are only touched when there is a reason.

Before you decide
Questions we
hear first.
Self-service, tenancy, the API and who looks after the platform. We work through each of them with you during the design.
Ask an engineerDedicated CloudStack is for when your users need self-service and tenant networking: they create and change resources themselves through the portal and the API. Our managed private cloud runs on OLVM and is operated by our engineers for you. We build both and will recommend the one that fits how you work.
