Power tracking and capacity

Every UPS, PDU and transfer switch polled every minute, per-device and per-room power measured, battery health tracked, every rack dual-corded and balanced.
Our engineers in the aisle during the Athens build, thumbs up

Power is the one dependency every server shares. We measure it like we mean it: every UPS, power strip and transfer switch polled every minute, draw tracked per device, per rack and per room, battery health watched continuously, and every rack fed from two independent sources.

What it is

A power telemetry and capacity platform we built for our own datacenters. It reads the management cards of every UPS, every rack power strip on both feeds and every automatic transfer switch, stores every reading and every event, and turns them into live views, alarms and capacity numbers our engineers plan with.

How we build it

Every minute, every device. The platform polls each power device over SNMP every minute and keeps every outlet reading and every event the management cards record. Nothing is sampled away.

Both feeds of every rack. Every rack is dual-corded from independent A and B feeds, and every power strip on both feeds is measured. That gives us, for each rack, what it draws today and what each feed would carry if the other were lost.

Batteries, watched. For every UPS we track battery temperature, charge, estimated runtime and the state of the unit, so a battery that is ageing or a UPS that could no longer carry its load is known about long before it is needed.

Live maps and rack elevations. Engineers see the estate as an animated live power-flow map, from the utility feed through the UPS units to the racks, with the flow drawn to scale and labelled with live load, and as rack elevations showing what draws what.

Alarms that matter. Deep battery discharge, an outlet switching state, a transfer between sources, redundancy lost on a feed: each one raises an alarm to the engineer on call.

Phases kept in balance. We watch the load on each phase and rebalance by moving power cords one at a time while watching the live meter, so no phase carries more than its share if a feed is lost.

Capacity planned from data. Draw measured at the power strips is compared with the capacity each room and cage is provisioned for, so we know the headroom we have before we place a new rack, not after.

What it protects you from

  • A UPS that quietly could not carry its load when the moment came.
  • A rack that would overload one feed if the other failed.
  • A phase imbalance that turns a single-feed event into an outage.
  • New hardware placed into a cage with no real headroom.
  • An event with no timeline because nothing was recorded.

Why EuroVPS

  • Minute-by-minute measurement of every UPS, power strip and transfer switch.
  • Both feeds of every rack measured.
  • Battery health tracked continuously, not tested once a year.
  • Phases balanced with live metering, not guesswork.
  • Capacity decisions made from measured draw.

FAQ

Can I see the power draw of my dedicated hardware? Yes. For dedicated racks and servers we can report draw per device and per feed.

How do you know a UPS will hold? We watch battery temperature, charge and runtime continuously, and alarm on any loss of redundancy.
